The “Smart Lander” database contains hundreds of thousands of simulated hard landings of ATR aircraft in every theoretical combination of weight, balance, passenger or cargo payload, and landing-stress load, as well as stress-load data obtained from FDR recordings of all actual hard landings in hydromechanical systems service and thousands of normal landings.

The standard airliner tire can handle a 38-ton load. It can meet the ground 500 times before needing a re-tread, an aviation overhaul it can take on seven times in its life.

Landing gear rubber is typically inflated to 200 psi, this is around six times what you add to an automobile tire, and the tires on an F-16 fighter jet aircraft are pumped up to 320 psi.

The Aircraft Classification Number (ACN) denotes the effect of individual aircraft on different pavements by a single special number, which changes according to pavement type and subgrade strength. It is two times the sourced single-wheel load expressed in thousands of kilograms, with single-wheel tire pressure standardized at 1.25 megapascals (= 181 psi). In addition, the derived single-wheel load is a function of the sub-grade strength. Four subgrade categories are defined (high, medium, low, and ultra-low) for each pavement type (flexible or rigid).

Bell’s first ever detachable wing helicopter aircraft, nicknamed the 360 Invictus, is nominated to be the US Army’s next armed reconnaissance helicopter. It’s competing against an aircraft from Sikorsky, called the Raider X. Both competitors’ prototypes are part of an Army program called FARA, which stands for Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft. Bell’s supplementary power unit or SPU will also be able to assist if the main engine fails and the pilots need to make an emergency landing. The supplemental power unit would kick in, and drive the rotor system to enable a softer and safer environment for the landing gear with more time to assess various terrain landing options.
